Decorative Overlay & Screeds
(Cast & Supply & Polish)

Decorative Overlay Systems:

Definition: A thin layer of material applied over existing concrete to enhance its appearance and functionality.

Types:
  • Cement-based overlays (e.g., stamped concrete, stenciled concrete, self levelling grouts).
  • Resin-based overlays (e.g., epoxy, polyurethane)
  • Aggregate-based overlays (e.g., exposed aggregate, terrazzo)
Characteristics:
  •  Thin layers (typically 1/8 inch to 1/4 inch)
  • Can mimic natural stone, brick, or other patterns
  • Available in various colors and textures
  • Can be used on interior or exterior surfaces
Benefits:
  • Aesthetically pleasing
  • Durable and long-lasting
  • Can be used to repair damaged concrete
  • Slip-resistant and easy to clean

Polyurethane Screeds:

Definition: A flexible, elastic layer of polyurethane material applied to a concrete substrate to create a smooth, durable surface.

Characteristics:
  • Typically 1/8 inch to 1/4 inch thick
  • Composed of polyurethane resin and hardener
  • Available in various colors and finishes
Benefits:
  •  Flexible and resistant to cracking
  • Excellent chemical and abrasion resistance
  • Can withstand heavy traffic and equipment
  • Easy to clean and maintain
Key differences:
  • Cement screeds are more rigid and prone to cracking, while polyurethane screeds are flexible and resistant to cracking.
  • Cement screeds are more suitable for low-traffic areas, while polyurethane screeds are better suited for high-traffic areas or areas with heavy equipment.
  • Decorative overlay systems offer a wide range of aesthetic options, while cement and polyurethane screeds are primarily functional surfaces.
